YESTERDAY morning, the Golden Globes announced their film and TV winners of 2021, virtually presenting the awards to celebrity guests from the comfort of their living rooms.

But here at Nub News, there was one show we were particularly rooting for: Ted Lasso - the American sitcom that takes place right here in Richmond.

Jason Sudeikis, who plays Ted Lasso's titular character, fortunately went on to win 'Best Performance by an Actor in a Television Series (Musical or Comedy)', strengthening the position of the show going forward and encouraging more people to tune in.

Ted Lasso is about an American football coach who tries his hand at coaching an English football team, the fictional AFC Richmond.

The character that Sudeikis plays is unrelentingly optimistic, wise and caring to a fault, which makes for heartwarming viewing during these times of uncertainty.

There has only been one season of the show so far, but thanks to this early award win, Apple TV+ will undoubtedly want to keep it running far into the future.

Back in January, film crews were seen in Richmond and Twickenham recording scenes at various locations along the riverside, so it looks like production for Season 2 is well under way.

We can't wait to see what's next from our favourite fictional football team, AFC Richmond and wish Sudeikis all the best in his now award-winning role.
