Head to Richmond riverside to cheer on the Thames Meander Marathon runners tomorrow!

Tomorrow runnners will hit the Thames Path to undertake a whopping 26.2 miles along the river, from Kingston to Kew and back again.

The Thames Meander Marathon is taking place on Saturday, beginning at the YMCA Hawker Centre in Kingston.

Runners will follow the Thames Path trail as far as the Barn Elms Rowing Club before turning around and heading back to Kingston.

This event is a bittersweet one for our editor Jess, who was supposed to be running the marathon herself on Saturday but due to a hip injury followed by a positive covid test result in her household is currently isolating and so can no longer participate. (A round of "Ahhs" please!)

HOWEVER, this meandering Thameside run will be a fantastic spectator and participator sport, so get your trainers on and wander down to the riverside this weekend to cheer on those athletes.

You can find all sorts of events, from concerts to cooking classes to sporting events, on our newly revamped What's On section.

The marathon is in it's eighth year and organised by Race Director David Ross.

Ross told Nub News: "It's a lovely scenic out / back trail running event with lovely views of the river Thames all the way along the Thames Path.

"We like runners of varying abilities and it's one of the most popular trail running events in the UK."

The course is a at, scenic riverside trail marathon perfect for PBs.

Runners can do a full marathon, starting at 8.30am, or half marathon starting at 9.30am.

The route

The marathon starts and ï¬nishes at the YMCA Hawker Centre HQ, meandering along the Thames Path out to the far side of Canbury Gardens and then returning past the HQ and along the Thames Path trail as far as the Barn Elms Rowing Club, where runners will turn around.

The half marathon route starts in the opposite direction to the marathon and meanders along the Thames Path out to the ï¬rst turnaround point at the Kew Gardens car park, returning past the race HQ and on towards Canbury Gardens just past the Boaters Inn Pub which is the ï¬nal half marathon turnaround point, returning to ï¬nish at the YMCA HQ.

If you are running the event, send us your photos, we'd love to publish them!

Don't forget to add your events to our free What's On section.
