We visit Richmond borough's new police station

A 24-hour police station where residents can report crime reopens today.

It has undergone nine months of refurbishment and Richmond Nub News was given a tour of the new facilities by Richmond neighbourhood inspector Rebecca Robinson.

The station in Twickenham's London Road is set over three floors.

Members of the public can report a crime in one of two booths. There is also a knife amnesty bank and a defibrillator.

Beyond this there is a labyrinth of rooms serving various police functions.

Towards the back of the ground floor is a large lecture-hall type space with four rows of chairs and two new computer screens.

This is where the police response teams - who react to emergency calls across Richmond and Kingston boroughs - brief their colleagues.

The response teams work three shifts to cover all hours of the day and night, so handovers are an essential part of the work.

New recruits to the force are trained in a professional development unit on the first floor.

The second floor is where Richmond Police's senior leadership team meet.

In the back yard, police vehicles are dispatched to incidents across the borough and there is a constant stream of crews coming and going throughout the day.

Richmond Police said on social media: "After several months of the front counter at Twickenham Police Station being closed to accommodate refurbishment of the police station, we're pleased to announce that the front counter is now open again!

"This means that you can report crime, in person, 24 hours, 7 days a week, at the police station. However, it also means the temporary front counter, which was based at Teddington Police Station during these past months, is now closed.

"If you do not wish to visit a police station to report crime, there are other options available:

Report online here: https://www.met.police.uk/ro/report/

Call 101 or 999 if it is urgent.

Call the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111."
