Ham Open Gardens – Sunday 19 May

This is a great day out for all the family with privileged access to over 20 gardens - including new gardens and some returning favourites. Free for under 16s. BBQ, jazz band, tea and cake. Proceeds to local charities.

An irresistible chance to explore some of Ham's most exquisite private gardens

Ham Open Gardens 2024 will take place on Sunday 19 May from 12-5pm, giving the public a unique opportunity to explore a selection of the most beautiful and intriguing private gardens around Ham Common, near Richmond in south-west London.

The event will take visitors on a fascinating journey through a variety of gardens which reflect the area's rich and diverse history, from the 18th century through to the present day. More than 20 gardens will be open to the public, ranging from extensive traditional gardens belonging to grand Georgian houses, to highly innovative contemporary schemes, charming cottage gardens, and some of the area's much-loved community gardens.

After meandering around the gardens in this exceptionally beautiful corner of Greater London, visitors will be able to enjoy teas and delicious homemade cakes served at St Thomas Aquinas Church near the pond on Ham Common. A barbecue will be provided by the Scouts on South Avenue, weather permitting.

The event is a 'must' not only for keen horticulturalists, but for anyone who simply enjoys beautiful gardens. All are within short walking distance of Ham Common, which is easily accessible by public transport (on the 65 and 371 bus routes from Richmond and Kingston stations). Early-bird tickets are £10 each (available from end-March up until the day before the event) from www.hamandpetersham.com, or £15 on the day, either online or from a stall on Ham Common. There is no charge for accompanied children aged 16 and under. As these are private gardens, we regret that dogs are not permitted, other than assistance dogs.

Ham Open Gardens is made possible by the support of young people from Grey Court School and Marymount International School London, as well as local volunteers. Proceeds from the event will go to Home-Start UK (a local community network supporting young families), Ham and Petersham SOS (a neighbourhood care group for older and vulnerable local residents) and the Ham and Petersham Association and Amenities Group, which organises the event.
