Hot on the heels of London Fashion Week, Back Up's Front Row highlights adaptive design, sustainable style and models with lived experience
On Thursday 24 September, UK charity Back Up presents Front Row: a groundbreaking London fashion show that redefines what it means to take to the runway.
The event, at the historic Battersea Arts Centre, will be an electrifying evening celebrating inclusive and adaptive fashion and raising funds to support Back Up's work to empower people affected by spinal cord injury to unlock new possibilities, build confidence, and live life to the full.
Spinal cord injury can happen to anyone, at any time. Every two hours, someone's life in the UK changes forever due to a spinal cord injury. And today, around 105,000 people across the UK are living with the effects of spinal cord injury.
Adaptive fashion is designed with hidden modifications to be easier, more comfortable and safer to wear. Features such as magnetic buttons, Velcro, snap fasteners, and ring-pull zippers for instance replace standard small buttons and laces. While trousers and skirts might feature higher back rises and side-seam waist adjustments tailored for wheelchair users.
Back Up is committed to ensuring that anyone affected by spinal cord injury can get the support they need. The money raised from Front Row will help Back Up to provide vital services to help transform lives. From wheelchair skills training to activity courses and mentoring to career development, Back Up empowers people to live confidently, make meaningful connections, and reach their full potential.
Back Up CEO, Abigail Lock, says: "Front Row is a celebration of inclusivity and style, and we're thrilled to have leading adaptive fashion designers showcasing their creations. More than just a fashion show, the event highlights the importance of representation and demonstrates what's possible after spinal cord injury. Every ticket sold will help Back Up empower more people to build confidence, embrace new opportunities and reach their full potential."
