Tommy Block's first-half penalty inspired Hampton and Richmond Borough to claim their first home win of the season 1-0 against Chippenham Town.

Block converted his penalty mid-way through the first half following a foul on Temi Babalola and that proved to be enough to help the Beavers end their three match losing run.

A strong second half defensive effort was to follow as Hampton kept the Wiltshire side at bay to claim all three points.

The result sees Hampton and Richmond climb up to 16th in the Vanarama National League South, as they were one of only two sides in the bottom half to taste victory.

Tommy Wood could have given the home side the lead inside ten minutes, when good work between Ade Shokunbi and Babalola conspired to set up Wood, but Will Henry in the Chippenham goal managed to deny him.

Then after 25 minutes Babalola was dragged down in the penalty area and Block stepped up to put an end to the Beaver's penalty woes as he dispatched it, the first spot kick Hampton have scored this season having missed the previous three.

After a period of dominance from the Bluebirds, Jake Gray drove from the edge of his own box into the Chippenham half and released Wood, but Henry was once again able to deny him.

54 minutes in Tom Mehew attempted to catch Mark Smith off his line from inside his own half, but the Beavers 'keeper was able to recover and comfortably deal with the effort.

Just after the hour mark Luke Russe flicked a header against the crossbar from the corner as Chippenham continued to apply pressure but couldn't find a way through.

As the game drew towards a close, Stefan Ilic controlled a cross field ball calmly on his chest, before going past a defender and his fierce shot was well saved by Henry.

Chippenham continued to knock on the door until the end of the game, but the Beavers were creating the better chances and Henry had to make a pair of fine stops to deny Hampton from a corner.
