Jubilant scenes were to be seen outside Richmond Station last night as England fans celebrated victory over Denmark in the semi finals of Euro 2020.

The emotion of ending 55 "years of hurt" was clear to see in the England fans' celebrations, as several were hoisted onto shoulders whilst singing Football's Coming Home.

Social distancing went out the window as the fans danced and sang while exiting the station.

Richmond resident Charlie said: "It's so lovely to see people celebrating in groups again after such a tough year. We won! I can't believe it!"

British Transport Police and Richmond Police were on hand to keep the lively crowd under control but there were no incidents of note or arrests made.

British Transport Police said: "We did have an increased police presence at key stations and routes across the London network yesterday due to the increased footfall for the EURO 2020 fixture at Wembley Stadium."

Richmond Police said: "At around 11:15PM on the 7th July 2021 Officers were called to assist British Transport Police with a large crowd outside Richmond Train Station.

"The crowd was reported to have caused a large disturbance. Officers were deployed to prevent anti-social behaviour and ensure the road was cleared.

"No arrests were made by Met officers and the crowd was moved on. Officers left the area soon after at 11.55."
