Sports and fitness facilities across Richmond will close later this week for the 27-day lockdown, the council said.

"In line with further Covid-19 restrictions announced by the government, from November 5 until December 2, all of the council's sports, fitness centres and swimming pools will be closed," a message said.

"As a result, all direct debit payments made in November, will be credited for the month of December and all annual memberships will be extended by one month.

"For all pay as you go bookings, credit notes will be issued for revised dates once the restrictions have been lifted and the service has reopened to the public."

An update was also sent to Play Tennis Richmond members today (Tuesday, November 3).

Despite it being possible to book a session this morning, all bookings have now been cancelled and memberships have been frozen until the courts can reopen.

"Any bookings already in the system for Thursday onwards will not be able to take place," the message said.

"We intend to suspend your membership for the period of closure and will reactivate it once the courts reopen.

"Please keep an eye on the Play Tennis Richmond website and be reassured that If there is any change to the Government guidance we will be back in touch."
