A woman in her 40s was mugged at knifepoint in broad daylight on East Sheen Common on Sunday afternoon.

The attack comes amid reports on social media of a rise in muggings in and around the Barnes and Mortlake area in recent months.

In the case of the attack on the woman in East Sheen, it has been reported on social media that the attacker was a smartly dressed man who, in the first instance, did not raise any reason for suspicion.

It has been suggested that he got away with cash and her mobile phone.

The Metropolitan Police told Nub News: "Police were called at 14:48hrs on Sunday, May 14, to a report of a robbery on East Sheen Common, SW14.

"Officers attended and spoke to the victim, a woman in her 40s, who reported she had been robbed at knifepoint by a man who had approached her while she walked through the park. No injuries were reported.

"A search of the area was carried out but no trace of the suspect was found."

Enquiries remain ongoing. Anyone with information should contact 101 with reference 4085/14MAY.
