A family run hair company has submitted an application to Richmond Council to replace the shopfront of Tobias and the Angel in Barnes.

Only Curls, who specialise in products and treatments for curly hair, plan to change the shopfront of the fabric store to a bright pink in the company's colours.

The proposals come following the recent announcement of Angel Hughes' death, the owner of Tobias and the Angel.

Tobais and the Angel via its website say: "We are sad to announce the sudden death of Angel Hughes on 21 November 2024.

"For 35 years Angel's shop in White Hart Lane, Barnes has been a beacon of interest for customers from all over the world.

"Her beautiful needlework using antique fabrics is an heirloom to be treasured and a unique testament to her craftsmanship.

"For those who have purchased her fine block printed fabrics, it will be a fond memory of a talented personality in the world of antiques and interiors.

"Angel had been planning a Christmas fair at her fabric printing workshop in Suffolk. This is now cancelled.

"Funeral or memorial arrangements will be posted on this website in due course.

"Until further notice, no orders are being accepted."

In its application Only Curls state: "The font glazing and timber framing will be replaced with new moulded timber framing and double glazed safety glazing.

"The sill of the main glass frontage will be raised by +/- 300mm in order to accommodate the new stair and allow ducting outlets for ventilation.

"The main glazed front is currently twin framed panels. This new installation will be one large panel."

Only Curls was founded in 2015 by Lizzie Carter after being "fed up" with her curls and not finding the "perfect products and tools to embrace" them.
