UPDATE: Richmond recycling centre re-opens for bookings after huge fire in June

The borough's main waste and recycling centre has now reopened but is still operating at a reduced capacity following a huge fire that did substantial damage back in June.

Booking is now essential at Townmead Road Re-use and Recycling Centre, and visitors arriving without a booking will be turned away. There is also no pedestrian access to the site.

At present you cannot take cardboard to recycle on site.

You can book a slot here.

On June 20, 100 tonnes of waste set fire at the tip, and ten fire engines and around 70 firefighters were called to the scene, working late into the night to dampen down the area.

The fire was under control by 11.24pm thanks to fire crews from Richmond, Heston, Chiswick, Hammersmith, Wandsworth and other surrounding fire stations.

Where else can I take my rubbish locally?

Richmond residents can take their waste and recycling to other sites in West London.

Sadly people living in Richmond upon Thames are unable to use the nearest tips in Wandsworth and Kingston as they are in a different Greater London waste authority area.

But you can make a booking at one of the places below.

- Brent

- Ealing – Greenford and Acton

- Harrow

- Hillingdon – Harefield

- Hounslow

Richmond Council's advice is to check for any different waste charges on the website before you go.
