A celebration of the Independence Day of Ukraine will take place in Twickenham this Sunday (27 August).

The event is in partnership with Discover Twickenham, the Ukrainian Social Club and Prosperity Centre for Humanitarian Aid.

The event will take place from 12 noon to 5pm at the Civic Centre in Twickenham.

The event will include traditional Ukraine activities, such as a Motanka Doll Crafting masterclass, led by Iva Repnytska.

Through this activity, guests will be able to explore the rich history of Ukrainian Montanka dolls and understand their symbolism.

As well as this there will be musical performances, including a DJ set and a concert of Ukrainian folk and jazz music.

Guests will also be able to explore Ukrainian culture by trying traditional dishes.

There will also be a charity auction to collect money for Prosperity Humanitarian Hub to fund the transportation of humanitarian goods to Ukraine.

Alina Luts, founder and director of the Ukrainian Social Club in Twickenham said: "Independence is a very important day for Ukrainians because that's how we identify ourselves, that's how we identify our nation and we would usually celebrate it at home. It's a very important day for every Ukrainian family.

"Especially here in London and in Twickenham, it is important for people who are refugees, who are far away from their loved ones. It's very important to have an event like this to come to and support and feel the unity and that's why we are organising it for a second year.

"I hope that it'll become a great tradition."

She added: "It's a great opportunity for Ukrainian artists, musicians and dancers to share our culture with local people.

"We welcome everyone to come and enjoy the event and by just being there it'll make a difference.

"The war is not over and we want to spread the word about it and remind the public that the war is not over and we need to get together as people on this planet to stop the war."
