It has been confirmed by World Rugby and the RFU that Twickenham Stadium will be one of the host venues for the Women's Rugby World Cup in 2025.

The world cup will kick of on 22 August 2025 and concluding with the Rugby World Cup final, on 27 September 2024, the 10th edition of the showcase event will be the most accessible ever, with games played across the country.

Cllr Gareth Roberts, Leader of Richmond Council, said: ""It's absolutely smashing that the home of England Rugby has been chosen as a host venue for the Women's World Cup.

"The past few weeks have been an amazing celebration of English women's sport - the Lionesses, including our own Lauren James who grew up in this borough, have inspired many young girls to pursue their love of sport.

"Twickenham is used to welcoming the best of world rugby to the stadium, but with this tournament we have a chance to further celebrate women in sports, to cheer on the Red Roses on home soil, work with the RFU to create a lasting legacy of grassroots rugby for women and girls in Richmond upon Thames and to inspire others, not just in this country but around the world, to do exactly the same."

The other host cities and venues are:

  • Brighton and Hove – Brighton and Hove Albion Stadium
  • Bristol – Ashton Gate
  • Exeter – Sandy Park
  • Manchester – Salford Community Stadium
  • Northampton – Franklin's Gardens
  • Sunderland – Stadium of Light
  • York – York Community Stadium

Marlie Packer, Red Rose and Saracens player, said: "I know how special it is to play at Twickenham in front of a big crowd and it would be such an amazing experience for any team involved.

"I hope fans will come to London once more and show their support for all the teams that will be competing. We hope this World Cup on home soil will really inspire people to give rugby a go."

The full match schedule and ticketing details will be announced next year.
