Richmond has become a must see spot for American tourists following the success of Apple TV's 'Ted Lasso.'

The show, which stars Jason Sudeikis as the American sports coach brought in to manage Premier League AFC Richmond, features many of Richmond's landmarks, including Richmond Green, the surrounding paved streets, the Princes Head pub, Richmond Riverside and Church Street, Twickenham, leading to a tourist boom for the area.

Louise Abbotts, Be Richmond's Chief Operating Officer, said: "Ted Lasso has been a massive boost for Richmond and has really helped put the town on the map globally, particularly for American audiences,

"It's a great showcase for what Richmond has to offer and provides a beautiful backdrop. With each new season, we've seen an uptick in interest and awareness and it's becoming a must-visit destination for the diehard AFC Richmond fans.

"We'll miss having Ted in town, and a team in the Premier League, but we're optimistic that even though the show may have come to an end we'll still be welcoming Greyhounds' supporters for quite a while."

"Richmond was the perfect location for Ted Lasso. It is an amazing place to live and work and we're incredibly lucky to have such a great range of dynamic and positive independent retailers and businesses in our High Street," said Louise.

"Hopefully the show's enduring appeal will encourage more people, not just American tourists, to see what Richmond has to offer," she added.

Following the success of the show visitors to Richmond can now join a 'Ted Lasso' guided tour, which includes 24 locations that are featured in all three seasons of the show.

Many shops are now selling AFC Richmond merchandise and some of the most famous locations in the show, including Ted's house and a particular park bench have become impromptu photo opportunities for fans.

Paul Weber, from Conneticut, said that he was watching Ted Lasso whilst planning his trip to London.

He said: "We held a deep affection for the show and possessed very little knowledge about Richmond prior to making the choice of dedicating a day to exploring it.

"As a general rule we lean towards including destinations that lie beyond the typical tourist path.

"While acknowledging that Richmond has gained prominence due to the show, it offered us a splendid chance to experience a charming town first hand."

He added that whilst visiting Richmond him and his wife visited The Prince's Head for lunch, the pub which in the show stars as Ted's favoured watering hole, The Crown & Anchor.

The Prince's Head welcomes up to 100 American visitors a day.

Rachae, from Texas, visited Richmond whilst she was spending a month living in West London as part of a year long trip around the world said: "Ted Lasso was the primary factor for visiting Richmond.

"Initially we had assumed everything had been filmed on a set but when we learned that many places for the show were indeed filmed on location in Richmond, we had to see it for ourselves."
