Tesco to open new store in Richmond

International supermarket chain Tesco has had its plans to open another Richmond store approved.

Tesco PLC submitted a planning application to bring one of its Express outlets to 27 The Quadrant, not far from its existing store at 29 George Street.

Since April 2025, 27 The Quadrant has been vacant following the closure of Amazon Fresh, which was on the high street for three years before shutting.

The application from Tesco will see the installation of internally illuminated fascia signs, projecting signs and company graphics at the building.

In its proposals, Tesco said the scheme would "respect the architectural character and historic significance" of the area and that it would be "proportionate and comparable to other retail units within the vicinity".

This comes as Tesco's licensing hours are being reviewed, which has generated scrutiny from locals.
