The police have established another no go zone for groups of teens and young people across the weekend in a crackdown on antisocial behaviour.

The move comes against the background of concerns that groups of young people are arranging via social media to descend on the borough.

Last month, the large gatherings were associated with drunkenness, violence, fights and an attack on the police around Richmond Green and McDonald's.

The order comes into effect at 4pm on Friday and will run through until 7am on Sunday.

It covers a vast area including all of Richmond town centre and riverside through Twickenham to Teddington, Bushy Park and also brings in Kingston town centre.

Richmond Police said: "A Section 35 dispersal has been authorised by Insp Mcloughlin beginning 16.00 on 04/11/22 until 0700 06/11/22.

"This is due to many young people coming to the borough in previous weeks and in some cases causing ASB and other crimes."

They added: "When in effect, it is an offence to: Fail to comply with a direction given by a police officer or PCSO to disperse.

"Fail to surrender items likely to cause ASB on request of a police officer or PCSO.

"Return within a specified period after being directed to disperse."

Just a few weeks ago, police launched an investigation into allegations of a serious sexual assault on a 17 year-old female, which took place on the Little Green, near Richmond Theatre.

Richmond Council operates a Safe Space initiative, which involves council officers, the police and volunteers, outside the town's station in the evenings.

The scheme is designed to offer help, reassurance and a refuge to those worried about their safety in Richmond town centre.

The Safe Space scheme operates from a marquee that is outside Richmond rail station and runs from 9pm to 1am on Friday and Saturday evenings.

The Council said: "As the marquee has garnered a significant positive response from the public as well as several successful police interventions, it will continue to serve residents this autumn."
