Tapas on the river - Renowned restaurant group Brindisa to open on prime Richmond riverside site
The renowned Spanish restaurant group Brindisa is to open it biggest tapas site in a premium river location close to Richmond Bridge.
Previously the group, which already has five popular restaurants, has concentrated on busy city locations.
However, it seems a number of restaurateurs are targeting leafier locations, reflecting a shift in working and living patterns caused by the pandemic.
Scott's of Mayfair will be soon be opening a fish restaurant in the former Revolution bar and restaurant, which is also on the riverside and close to The Ivy.
The openings are a vote in confidence in Richmond, which is set to attract lovers of good food from across the capital and beyond.
Tapas Brindisa Richmond will open in October in the building that was previously occupied by Jackson + Rye and has a prime position overlooking the Thames.
The restaurant off Heron Square will open seven days a week, serving breakfast, lunch and dinner.
The menu is influenced by founder and owner Monika Linton's early years on Spain's Eastern coast. It is described as a celebration of the varied cultures, landscapes and above all, the exceptional foods of Spain.
It is described as a relaxed, dog-friendly venue perfect for a mid-week catch up or a lazy weekend lunch. Inside, the décor of handmade tiling and pastel colours is designed to recreate the feeling of an authentic Spanish tapas bar.
The menu will probably be similar to the group's Battersea restaurant, which includes a vast range of tapas, such as Gambas al ajillo - King prawns, chilli, garlic, olive oil – at £9.50, and Chorizo de león con patatas - chargrilled León chorizo, pan fried baby potatoes, shallots, thyme, watercress – at £8.
The main dining room will feature intimate booths, while an open kitchen with counter seating will be available for those who like to watch the chefs in action.
In the warmer months, guests will be able to enjoy riverside views from the 60-cover terrace, and there will also be a 'conservatory' style dining area, which also overlooks the water.
There will be an extended bar menu to be enjoyed in the Spanish 'pub-style' drinking area.
The Bodega Room will include a specially curated range of Spanish cheeses, delectable Ibérico hams and single-estate rare wines.
Monika Linton said: "As a super keen outdoorsy Londoner, I am thrilled to be able to bring Brindisa to one of the most enjoyable and picturesque areas of the River Thames and Richmond. River walks, park walks, island walks can be enjoyed any time of year, before and after some delicious Spanish dishes at this beautifully positioned site."
Co-founder, Ratnesh Bagdai, said: "After our successful riverside venture at Brindisa Battersea Power Station, we have for a while set our eyes on another riverside eatery.
"Whilst the hospitality industry remains challenging, this Richmond site offers our estate a great opportunity to continue our timely well-paced growth and provides another solid step forward for our talented teams and leaders.
"Being familiar with the area, I am very excited to operate in Richmond and to offer the neighbourhood an all-day, any-day premium casual offer to capture the essence of what the industry is all about....enjoyment and socialising whenever and how often you like."
