Staff shortages hit Pools on the Park

The well-publicised labour shortages across the economy are now hitting the ability to go for a bracing swim in Richmond.

Pools on the Park will be shutting its outdoor pool on weekday afternoons through until November 6.

It will close for the day at 1.30pm on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays, while on Mondays and Wednesdays, it will close at 1.30pm before opening again at 4.30pm through to 7.30pm.

A notice for users reads: "Due to ongoing staff shortages there will be reduced opening hours of the Outdoor pool on weekday afternoons from Wednesday, 6th October 6, until Friday 5th November."

The borough recently advertised for a full-time swim school co-ordinator managing staff across all the area's pools.

Wider staff shortages, which have been at least partially blamed on Brexit, have disrupted hospitality and the food chain, while they are also hitting many public services, ranging from rubbish and recycling collections through to care for the elderly.
