Foot Solutions Richmond reveals that late summer and early autumn see an increase in customers seeking help for heel and arch pain.

Many of its customers have spent the summer walking on hard surfaces (including pool-sides and villa floors) wearing only flimsy footwear like flip flops. 

According to the College of Podiatry, flip flops and flimsy sandals provide very little or no arch support and because they don't support important weight-bearing areas of the feet, repeated wearing (particularly on hard surfaces), can directly lead to serious foot problems like plantar fasciitis.

The "painful" condition is caused by excessive stretching of the plantar fascia, a band of tissue running along the underside of the foot.
