A bold new reimagining of Alice's Adventures in Wonderland will take to the stage in Richmond this Christmas, as the OT Young Company presents Alice's Adventures in Wonderland by Chinonyerem Odimba.
The production runs from 18 to 22 December 2025, with a press night on 19 December at 7.30pm.
Odimba's version, inspired by Lewis Carroll's classic tale, places Alice at the heart of a world where time twists, riddles multiply, and familiar characters challenge her sense of self.
The story follows a young girl who feels unnoticed and out of place, until she makes a reckless decision that leads her into Wonderland, a place where identity, change and courage collide.
The adaptation promises a contemporary take on the much-loved story, imagined through a fresh lens and performed by the theatre's acclaimed Young Company.
Playwright Odimba is known for her work across theatre, television and poetry. She is Artistic Director and CEO of tiata fahodzi, and her plays have been staged at major venues including Bristol Old Vic, Kiln Theatre, Hampstead Theatre and Soho Theatre.
Her recent work includes Medea, Unknown Rivers, The Prince and the Pauper and Princess and The Hustler.
The production is directed by Matt Hassall, whose experience spans the Royal Exchange Theatre, Almeida Theatre, LAMDA, The Old Vic and national tours. Hassall has worked extensively with young performers and is currently an Associate Artist of the National Youth Theatre.
The staging will bring together the OT Young Company's ensemble with Odimba's inventive script, offering audiences a vibrant, imaginative and modern take on the story that has captivated readers for more than 150 years.
