Family-run roofing firm Apex Roofing has built a reputation as one of west London's most trusted roofing companies. From roof repairs to loft conversions, the company says "no job is too big or small".

Nub News sat down with the owner of Apex Roofing, Balraj Khara, who in just a few years has built a successful roofing business while also making a name for himself in the boxing world.

Although he studied accounting and finance at college, Khara was unsure which career path to pursue.

After asking friends at his boxing gym about possible jobs, the 30-year-old "jumped" into the roofing industry.

Khara explained: "At the beginning I never thought of having my own building firm, but as time went on, I was growing, learning how to do things, materials, pricing of jobs, et cetera, I thought maybe I could do it on my own."

Aside from his nine professional boxing wins, what makes Khara and Apex Roofing stand out is his personal approach with customers and his willingness to support them with any queries they may have.

"We guide you through it and say, 'Look, this is what we've done here, this is what we've used, this is why we've done this,' so you really understand and acknowledge what's going on," Khara said.

"It's not just showing up right at the start, taking money, doing the work and saying, 'Right, that's it, it's done now, see you later.'

"I like to take the customer through it because I'm proud of the work that I've done, and the customer wants to know what's happening to their home."

Despite sourcing high-quality materials and having years of experience in the trade, it's not always easy, admitted the Feltham native.

Khara says he often sends out quotes to numerous potential clients but only hears back from a handful.

However, his boxing background has taught him many lessons outside the ring that help him run Apex Roofing.

Khara said: "There's things like being calm, being relaxed, not having an emotional reaction to things and controlling the controllables.

"I can send out up to 20 quotes and maybe hear back from 10, then seven you may go and visit, but in the end you might only get three customers.

"It's just about being patient and relaxed. You can always learn from every job, just like in every fight."
