Kew House School has made history after its rowing team secured a landmark victory at one of the UK's most prestigious junior events.

The Kew House School Boat Club claimed its first ever win at the Schools' Head of the River Race on Friday, 13 March.

Now in its 80th year, the race is widely regarded as one of the "big three" events in the national junior rowing calendar, attracting top school crews from across the country to compete along the Championship Course on the River Thames.

Following strong performances earlier in the month, Kew House entered two boys' crews into the First and Second VIII categories.

Despite challenging conditions on the Tideway, with a mix of tail and head winds, the school's 1st VIII delivered an outstanding performance, racing with composure to win the First Eights category.

The crew also finished 15th overall, beating several of the country's most established rowing programmes – including Eton College's top crew.

The result has been hailed as a defining moment for the school's rowing programme, reflecting months of hard work, resilience and dedication.

British Rowing praised the achievement, saying: "There's a new set of kids on the block. Kew House beat some of the titans of schoolboy rowing, including Eton on their way to a first ever School's Head win."

Meanwhile, Team Filippi described it as a "standout performance" in a highly competitive field, while Junior Rowing News said the victory was a "statement of intent" from a rapidly developing programme.

Kew House's 2nd VIII also impressed with a strong and competitive row, highlighting the growing depth of talent within the club.

The win marks a significant milestone for rowing at Kew House, with the programme continuing to establish itself among the top schoolboy crews in the country.

Attention now turns to the upcoming Junior Sculling Head, where multiple crews from the club will be back in action as they look to build on this success.
