Kew Green pupils bring Van Gogh to life in joyful school-wide art exhibition

A swirl of colour, creativity, and community spirit lit up Kew Green Preparatory School last Friday, as pupils unveiled a spectacular whole-school art exhibition inspired by Vincent Van Gogh.
The immersive gallery experience, bursting with sunflowers, starry skies, and imaginative reinterpretations of the artist's most iconic works, was a powerful celebration of the school's ethos: Together We Grow.

From Nursery to Year 6, every child played a part in transforming the school into a vibrant homage to Van Gogh's legacy.
The exhibition featured bold still lifes, expressive landscape paintings, giant collaborative sculptures, and even a Van Gogh-inspired birthday cake to mark the school's 20th anniversary, all crafted by pupils, parents, and staff working side-by-side.

The project extended far beyond the art room. One Year 6 pupil won the Wimbledon Book Fest for her poem Starry Night, inspired by her exploration of Van Gogh's emotional world.
Year 5 enjoyed an outdoor workshop with contemporary artist Jonjo Elliot, supported by Clarendon Fine Art, bringing new life to Van Gogh's techniques through a modern lens.

"This exhibition has been a joyful reminder of what can happen when creativity and community come together," said Headteacher Mrs Davies.
"Our brand message, 'Together We Grow', is at the heart of everything we do at KGPS.
"This project not only nurtured artistic skill and confidence, it brought our whole school family together in celebration of learning, imagination, and collaboration."
The event was led by Head of Art & DT, Miss Gemma Burge, whose vision brought Van Gogh's world to life in bold, unforgettable colour.

The exhibition was also a timely tribute to the National Gallery's current Van Gogh show and the upcoming Van Gogh and Anselm Kiefer exhibition at the Royal Academy, bringing world-class art themes into the heart of the school community.
With its blend of inspiration, teamwork, and bold creative expression, the KGPS Van Gogh exhibition truly proved that when children are supported to grow together, extraordinary things can happen.
