Sorrow as Wags n Tales suddenly shuts its doors
A much loved pet friendly cafe has suddenly shut its doors blaming soaring energy prices and Brexit.
Wags N Tales has announced the permanent closure of both their Twickenham and Surbiton branches.
This is the latest of a series of closures of Twickenham cafes that have struggled to cope with rising rents and other costs, including Caffè Nero.
A note posted in the window of the Twickenham branch said: "This has been a very dificult decision that we have not taken lightly. Having successfully navigated through very challenging Covid times, we were hoping to have got through the worst.
"However, the last year has been the most difficult for us as an independent, self financed business. The absurd cost of energy has seen our gas and electricity bills rise by more than 1,000% in each location!
"Brexit has created a significant shortage of hospitality staff, especially in the kitchen. Unfortunately, the energy crisis, staffing and all-round increased costs have compelled us to take this step.
"It has been our pleasure to serve our wonderful customers, many of whom are regulars and have become friends of Wags' team. So, thank you to all of our customers who have supported us throughout the years without whom we wouldn't have got this far."
For those looking for another dog friendly cafe in the area there will be new branches of Megans opening in Twickenham and Richmond this year.
