Sadness and job losses as pandemic blamed for closure of garden centres

The Adrian Hall Garden Centres in East Sheen and Feltham have closed after an attempted sale fell through.

The doors have been locked and a firm of administrators has been called to oversee redundancies and the winding up of the business.

They suggested that the business's money troubles began with the lockdowns caused by the pandemic.

Founded in 1966, the business specialised in paving, indoor plants, fencing, timber and decking. It also sold pots, gifts and cards.

In 2001, a second site was opened in East Sheen, London, which has also been affected by the liquidation.

The company's Christmas Grotto at Feltham attracted families from across the borough, while collecting a Christmas tree from the company's outlets became a festive tradition for many.

Due to the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic, the business suffered significant cash flow pressures, ultimately leading to its liquidation. The Company ceased trading on August 26, 2022 and all staff were made redundant.

Sarah Cook and Simon Carvill-Biggs of FRP Advisory, have been appointed Joint Liquidators of Adrian Hall Limited, garden centres in Feltham, Middlesex and 181-189 Upper Richmond Road West, East Sheen, London.

Sarah Cook, director at FRP, said: "While lockdown restrictions allowed garden centres to open the pandemic, there was still a huge impact on the sector.

"Unfortunately, in this case, it has led to the insolvency of a much-loved garden centre. Our focus now is on working with the staff at the Company to access appropriate redundancy support."

A message on the company's website reads: "It is with sadness and regret that Adrian Hall Limited have had to cease trading.

"Adrian Hall were working towards a sale of the company but regrettably the buyer pulled out and liquidators had to be appointed.

"Thank you to all our staff and customers for your service and custom over the years and sorry - this is not the way we wanted it to end."
