The Met Office has warned of possible thunderstorms in Greater London later this week.

A yellow warning has been issued by the forcecaster from noon on Friday, June 26 until 6am the next day.

There is the potential for "thunderstorms causing flooding and disruption in a few places".

What to be aware of

- There is a small chance that homes and businesses could be flooded quickly, with damage to some buildings from floodwater, lightning strikes, hail or strong winds

- Where flooding or lightning strikes occur, there is a chance of delays and some cancellations to train and bus services

- Spray and sudden flooding could lead to difficult driving conditions and some road closures

- There is a small chance that some communities become cut off by flooded roads

- There is a slight chance that power cuts could occur and other services to some homes and businesses could be lost

This week's forecast

Richmond is currently basking in its hottest weather of the year.

Temperatures are hitting a peak of 31C today and 32C tomorrow (Thursday, June 25), with wall-to-wall sunshine across both days.

It will drop to highs of 27C on Friday, with the chance of rain and storms.

What a yellow warning means

Yellow warnings can be issued for a range of weather situations, the Met Office says.

Many are issued when it is likely that the weather will cause some low level impacts, including some disruption to travel in a few places.

Many people may be able to continue with their daily routine, but there will be some that will be directly impacted and so it is important to assess if you could be affected.

Other yellow warnings are issued when the weather could bring much more severe impacts to the majority of people but the certainty of those impacts occurring is much lower.

It is important to read the content of yellow warnings to determine which weather situation is being covered by the yellow warning.
