Richmond is set to celebrate "creativity, community and contemporary culture" this weekend with the launch of Centre Stage, a free new multi-arts festival on George Street and Whittaker Square.

The festival, running from 11am to 7pm this Saturday (13 September), will feature a mix of live music, theatre, workshops, art installations, street food, and local vendors for all ages to enjoy.

Music highlights include award-winning drummer Femi Koleoso of Ezra Collective performing at Whittaker Avenue from 5:30–7pm, neo-soul singer Hillarynx, Joe Davis of Far Out Recordings bringing samba, soul and disco, and the Youth Music Showcase, curated by Richmond Music Trust and Basement Door, ending with local indie band Gingerella.

Theatre and processions will kick off the day with a vibrant, youth-led street performance by Kinetika Bloco, which members of the public are invited to join.

Audiences can also enjoy Alice in Wonderland promenade-style theatre from Orange Tree Theatre, with pop-up performances along George Street.

For those looking to get hands-on, the festival will offer creative workshops including child-led stage building, puppet making, banner design, clay modelling, spoken word, and music-making with recycled instruments.

Art installations will bring the streets alive, with recycled-fabric banners, giant Jabberwocky-inspired puppets, clay activities from Clayground Collective, and Drift Tricks, a skateable art installation blending play and artistry.

Visitors can also enjoy communal dining at the Long Table setup, browse a curated design market featuring fashion, homewares, and lifestyle pieces, or support social and environmental causes at the Charity Super.Mkt second-hand clothing market.

A wide selection of street food and local produce will be on offer throughout the day.

Centre Stage is being delivered by Richmond Council in partnership with HemingwayDesign, Richmond Arts Trust, and a host of local creative and cultural organisations, aiming to bring together the community in celebration of Richmond's vibrant cultural scene.
