The Lloyds Bank branch on The Quadrant, Richmond, could soon receive an upgrade, despite nation-wide closures.

The proposals would see the branch's frontage redesigned, with updated signage, following a planning application submitted to Richmond Council.

On behalf of Lloyds, Butterfield Group Limited stated: "This Heritage Statement supports a planning application for updated signage and minor external alterations to the existing Lloyds Bank premises at 19–22 The Quadrant, Richmond.

"The proposals have been carefully designed to respect the building's architectural character and its contribution to the historic environment."

Lloyds proposes to replace the existing fascia signage with a folded aluminium tray fascia sign, powder-coated in 'Pantone 3308c Racing Green' and feature green LED (light-emitting diode) illumination.

Additionally, the bank plans to install a projecting sign with built-up illuminated logo lozenges and the iconic horse motif.

All proposed signs will be internally illuminated via LED units.

Butterfield Group Limited added: "The proposed signage upgrade at Lloyds Bank, 19–22 The Quadrant, is a sympathetic intervention that sustains the character and appearance of the Richmond Conservation Area.

"It respects the existing building and enhances the vitality of the commercial streetscape through high-quality design."

This application comes as Lloyds Banking Group announced earlier this year that it plans to close around 136 branches across its brands (Lloyds Bank, Halifax, and Bank of Scotland) by spring 2026. This includes the neighbouring Halifax branch.

Lloyds Banking Group has said the closures reflect a shift in customer habits, with more people choosing to bank online or via mobile apps.

The plans are yet to be decided. To read the full application click here.
