Richmond upon Thames offers affordable co-working spaces below London average

New data reveals Richmond Upon Thames offers a 'solid selection' of co-working spaces compared to other UK cities.
Co-working spaces are shared offices where individuals can work in a flexible environment without having to rent a private offie.
According to analysis from Coworking Cafe, Richmond Borough has 10 co-working spaces with a median price of a dedicated desk at £197 per month - below Greater London (£279) and the UK's (£210) median price per month.
As for open workspaces, Richmond Upon Thames has a median price of £208/month, almost matching London's median (£210/month).
London leads the UK co-working market with 895 flex spaces (29% of the national total), mostly concentrated in Central London's business districts.
The company Fora leads with 61 spaces, followed by Workspace Group with 57 spaces and The Boutique Workplace Company with 37 spaces, including a branch on Kew Road.
Across London, the median price of dedicated desks per month are £279, above the UK median of £210.
Meanwhile, open workspaces in London come at £210, the second highest in the UK after Brighton and Hove (£220).
Virtual Offices cost £100 per month, double the national median of £50 and meeting rooms are priced at £48 per hour, which Coworking Cafe say is the highest median rate nationwide.
Nationally, the UK co-working market reached 3,090 spaces in Q4 2024, with 2,706 in England, 211 in Scotland, 105 in Wales, and 68 in Northern Ireland.
The capital is followed by Manchester (78 locations), Birmingham (55), and Bristol (53).
Balazs Szekely, Coworking Cafe Senior Creative Writer, and author of the report: "Richmond's coworking market, currently at 10 active flex workspaces, offers a solid selection that is comparable to major UK cities like Birmingham and Leeds in terms of availability per capita.
"With strong transport links and median dedicated desk rates at £197 per month — well below London's £279 median, and also below the UK median of £210 — Richmond also provides a well-connected and affordable alternative for professionals in nearby areas like Twickenham, Kingston, and Teddington, who wish to avoid long, costly commutes into Central London."
Coworking Cafe analysed data at the city level, with the exception of London (the City of London, plus 32 boroughs), based on built-up area (BUA) definitions as provided by the Office for National Statistics.
