A primary school teacher in Richmond has been banned from teaching after battery and criminal damage to property.
Thomas Burrough was employed as a class teacher and Geography co-ordinator at Darell Primary and Nursery School in North Sheen from April 2019.
The battery followed an altercation where he pushed an individual which resulted in them falling and being injured on May 23, 2020. The property damage took place on May 25, 2020.
The Teaching Regulation Agency panel also took into consideration a 2016 offence of drink driving.
Mr Burrough had declared the 2016 conviction to the school when applying for the teaching role.
Mr Burrough pleaded guilty to all of the offences at Central London Magistrates' Court and has now been banned from teaching for at least two years by the Teaching Regulation Agency.
The panel found the conduct of Mr Burrough "fell significantly short" of the standards expected of the profession.
Panel documents said: "[It's] recommended with provision for a review
period of two years. "This would provide Mr Burrough with sufficient time to demonstrate hisbehaviour had changed, and that his coping mechanisms for dealing with his issues with alcohol and anger were effective.
"This period would also allow him sufficient time to demonstrate his commitment to teaching."
It added: "Mr Burrough was convicted of common assault against an
individual. "However, the panel carefully considered the circumstances of the assault, and noted that it involved a brief altercation in which he pushed an individual which resulted in them falling and suffering an injury. "The panel was satisfied that this was a rare case where a review period should still be considered." A spokesperson from Darell Primary and Nursery School, said: "The panel decision and its outcome is clear and has been taken forwards. "The school has no further comment to make. " Mr Burrough can apply for a prohibition order to be set aside but not until October 20, 2023. Mr Thomas Burrough has a right of appeal to the Queen's Bench Division of the High Court within 28 days from the date he is given notice of this order.
