Richmond Station unveils new heritage-style logo after refurbishment

Outside works at Richmond Station are complete, with a brand-new heritage-style green logo of the station installed.
As part of a refurbishment announced earlier last year (1 August), the improvement project—led by Network Rail, South Western Railway (SWR), the Railway Heritage Trust, and Richmond Council—saw massive scaffolding erected in front of the station since October 2024.

SWR said: "The canopy reveal is the latest milestone in the project, following the wider work cleaning and restoring the station façade, with work continuing inside the station."
In attendance this morning (14 March 2025) were Richmond Park MP Sarah Olney, Lord Hendy CBE of Richmond Hill, Richmond Council Leader Councillor Gareth Roberts, Transport and Air Quality Committee Chair Councillor Alexander Ehmann, and South Richmond Councillor Chris Varley.

Cllr Ehmann told Nub News: "Richmond Station is once again gleaming with its original art deco splendour, thanks to partnership between the Council, Network Rail, South West Rail and others."
Works continue in the inside of the station, with panelling and hoarding being removed.
This has recently revealed old signs, such as a 'Timetables W.H. Smith and Son' logo, believed to date back to between 1846 and 1857.

SWR has said that it is "aiming to preserve these artefacts as much as possible and we're looking into how we might be able to integrate them with our more modern signs in a complementary way".
To date a range of improvements have already been completed at Richmond Station, including:
- Refurbishing and re-polishing the entrance doors
- Cleaning the stonework to the façade
- Installing new station lettering to the façade at high level.
- Redecorating the windows and the inside of the booking hall with the original heritage colours.
- Replacing the flagpoles putting them in their deployed position.
- Refurbishing the customer toilets in the lower concourse.
- Installing a new wide aisle gate in the lower concourse gateline.

Richmond Council has contributed £100,000 towards the Richmond Station refurbishment project to ensure the station remains a "hub for business and cultural heritage".
Cllr Roberts said: "The transformation that has been achieved has been truly remarkable.
"Over the last forty years, the glories of Richmond Station's wonderful art deco heritage have been hidden behind various layers of unattractive and uninspiring clutter.
"This wonderful refurbishment now allows Richmond Station a chance to shine once more; and the really exciting thing is that there is still more work to do. I can't wait to see the full splendour of Richmond Station when the full works are finally completed.
"This project is much more than just improving the station's appearance – it's one of the many ways our transport network is being improved to build a safer, convenient, and attractive borough for all residents."
The station first opened back in 1846, with the current station building opening in 1937. It was designed by James Robb Scott in Portland Stone.
