A long-lasting last orders was called by many of Richmond's pubs at 10pm last night.

A 27-day lockdown national begins today (Thursday, November 5).

Coronavirus rates have risen rapidly his autumn, raising concerns that sufferers would overwhelm hospitals and impinge on medical appointments and surgeries.

Prime Minister Boris Johnson said all non-essential businesses must close. Hospitality companies can remain open to sell food and drink on takeaway and delivery, but pubs in particular appear to have reached the conclusion that it's not worth it.

Richmond boozers emptied their barrels by selling pints at knockdown prices yesterday and posted warm messages on their social media pages.

Richmond Green pub The Cricketers sold bottles of beer and wine at 40% off as a "parting gift" to customers.

Our Youngs pubs including the White Cross, Old Ship, Shaftesbury, Marlborough, Lass O'Richmond and Orange Tree said: "As we temporarily close our doors, we want to say thank you for all your support. Please stay in touch via our @YoungsPubs social channels, we look forward to welcoming you back to your much loved local as soon as we can."

The Britannia said: "The last hurrah has arrived! What better way to send everyone off than with a bottle of this beautiful Brunello di Montalcino. Keep your eyes peeled on our socials and our website for something interesting in the near future."

Accompanying a photo of the view from Richmond Hill, the Roebuck said: "With blue skys on the horizon we were looking forward to spending our last day/night with you... however the decision has been made by the powers that be that we will close at 3pm today!

"We want to thank you for all your support & custom we are really going to miss you ⤠Keeping you our guests & our team safe has always been our 1st priority ðŸºðŸ· See you in 4 weeks xxx."

Richmond Vault wrote: "Tonight will be the last time to join us before lockdown 2.0 . We would like to say a big thank you all for your support and look forward to welcoming you back in December! Take care, the Richmond Vault team."

Pitcher and Piano wrote: "Another lockdown might be approaching, and let's be honest we're all feeling pretty sad about it ... We hope that when we re-open, you plan to pick up where you left off; celebrating Christmas and all the other occasions you may be missing during November."

A message from Jess, Lily, Alex and The St Margaret's Tavern team said: "So, last night was emotional. We were very sad to have to close our doors again for the next month, but it's not goodbye- it's see you soon. We can't wait to reopen our doors and welcome everyone back for some festive cheer! (Still taking bookings)

We would like to take this opportunity to thank our amazing team and loyal guests. The team here have been working tirelessly, with a smile on their faces, to ensure our guests are enjoying themselves in the safest environment - you are all amazing! And thank you to our lovely guests who have returned time and again to support our business - we wouldn't be here with you!"
