Richmond Park is waiting on approval for new gates on Ham Gate Avenue after a crash last year.

It has been more than a year (5 August) since a car crashed into the Richmond Park entrance gates destroying them and the vehicle.

Following the crash the Met Police arrested one person and two people were left injured as a result.

Since the incident, the gates remain partly damaged and the Royal Parks submitted a planning application to Richmond Council for the repairs on 26 July 2024.

A spokesperson for The Royal Parks tells Richmond Nub News: "We place huge importance on carrying out the repairs to the damaged gate and fence at Ham Gate to the highest standards.

"We have submitted a planning application to Richmond Council in order to deliver these works and we now await the outcome."

In the planning application, The Royal Parks seek to bring back the a "like for like" iron gate and fence. If possible it would use the existing brick piers free from damage.

In addition, The Royal Parks plan to replace the existing foot gate with a gate made of a lightweight material to help with the access for disabled users.

Also, the current gas lamps on the two gate piers are to be replaced with like for like style lights, but with LED light bulbs to "help with the sustainability of the gates".

In the planning application, it states: "Reinstatement of the cast iron & aluminium gate and fence also the repairs to the wall where necessary will continue to provide security to Richmond Park, while continuing to preserve the existing aesthetic of the existing gates."

The proposals are being considered. To read the full planning application, click here.
