South Western Railway (SWR) and Richmond Council have officially begun work on a new cycle hub at Richmond Station.

Delivered in partnership with the council, SWR say the multi-storey facility will accommodate 700 bikes and "make sustainable onward travel easier and more secure."

At the commencement ceremony yesterday (25 February 2025), Natalie Edwards, SWR Head of Projects, said: "Absolutely delighted to be here today at the groundbreaking ceremony for the new Richmond Cycle Hub.

"It's been a long time coming. It's a great opportunity for the area and the region. It's going to transform sustainable travel and its going to be amazing 700-bike cycle hub."

Richmond Council Chair of Transport and Air Quality Services Committee, Councillor Alexander Ehmann, added: "Really delighted to be here today to be able to put some spades in the ground for this fantastic cycle hub facility at Richmond Station.

"The great opportunity here is that we've got a facility for 700 bikes and it's just great to be see that this is coming into being very, very shortly.

"We're looking forward to doing more with South Western Railway and Network Railway of this type around the borough but this is a really beacon project for sustainability for environment and for cycling in Richmond."

Richmond Cycle Hub will have over three floors of cycle spaces, green wall, water reclamation systems and solar panels.

The project is funded by Richmond Council, Department of Transport, ATE and SWR which is expected to open this summer.
