According to data from The Times newspaper, Richmond Upon Thames is the best place to live in the UK.

The paper's 'expert team of judges from The Sunday Times' has used nine different of categories to rank which are the best places to live in Britain.

Criteria such as crime rates, housing prices and NHS waiting times were considered in its decision making process.

The Times say measures are given a rank between 1 and 291 and are weighted equally.

According to all of its measures, Richmond is the best place in Britain to live in because of its schools, 80 per cent GP satisfaction and the lowest crime rate in London.

The Times explain: "Richmond has it all — if you can stomach the £748,000 average house price, which is 42 per cent higher than the London average."

The paper does note that if it weighed its ranking slightly differently by, for example, prioritising public services, it is the London borough of Kingston-upon-Thames which would be number one instead of Richmond.

"Similarly, prioritising culture (that is, listed buildings, parks and community interest groups) results in Westminster coming out on top.

"Which might be nice if you have a million to spend, but otherwise has one of the highest crime rates in Britain," add The Times.
