Local volunteers are celebrating after receiving £4,200 in National Lottery Funding to support their work with the visually impaired in Richmond and surrounding boroughs.

VISOR (Visually Impaired Society of Richmond), run entirely by volunteers, is based in East Sheen, London and will use the money to arrange events and try to improve the life of the vision impaired.

The charity was joined by local Councillors Julia Cambridge and Margaret Dane, who is also Disability Champion for Richmond Council, to welcome the news at their Monday meet up at the Sheen Lane Centre.

VISOR has been running since 1998 and is staffed by twelve loyal volunteers.

Pat McNamee Chair of VISOR says: "We are delighted that the National Lottery Community Fund has recognised our work in this way.

"Thanks to the National Lottery players we can continue our work and try to alleviate the loneliness and isolation felt by so many vision impaired people, many of whom suffer from other life changing disabilities.

VISOR say it is keen to welcome new members and can be contacted on [email protected] telephoned on 02084875301 or on its website here.
