Richmond borough has achieved a record 25 Green Flag Awards, with Jubilee Meadow recognised for the first time.

The annual Green Flag Awards recognise the UK's best-managed parks and green spaces, with Richmond's latest success covering 26 borough parks, including one award shared by Terrace Gardens and Buccleuch Gardens.

The new award for Jubilee Meadow takes the borough's total to its highest ever.

Located off Heathfield Recreation Ground, Jubilee Meadow is a natural parkland featuring restored meadow, tree-lined edges and grassland habitats for wildlife. It also includes accessible paths, mown walking routes and seating, including an accessible raised bench.

Councillor Julia Neden-Watts, Chair of Richmond Council's Environment, Sustainability, Culture and Sports Committee, welcomed the achievement.

She said: "These prestigious awards are a celebration of the knowledge, dedication and care that goes into looking after our parks and open spaces all year round.

"They reflect the hard work of volunteers, local groups, contractors and Council staff, who help make these spaces welcoming, accessible and rich in nature for residents and visitors to enjoy.

"Our parks play a crucial role in supporting people's mental and physical wellbeing, as well as providing vital habitats for wildlife. We are proud to see so many green spaces across Richmond upon Thames recognised through the Green Flag Awards."

As part of this year's judging process, Richmond Council hosted Green Flag peer review judges, who praised the borough's approach to managing and improving its parks.

The Council says it is continuing its work to create a greener and more climate-resilient borough through initiatives including its partnership with Trees for Streets, which encourages residents to get involved in tree planting.
