The Met Police reveal that Richmond Bridge has shut after a collision involving a vehicle earlier today (Thursday, 16 April).

Images circulating online show a grey car with its front part smashed into a lamp post.

A spokesperson for the Met told Nub News: "Police were called to Richmond Road, Twickenham at 02:33hrs on Thursday, 16 April following a collision involving one car.

"Officers attended with the London Ambulance Service and the driver of the car, a man in his 30s was taken to hospital where he remains.

"We await an update on his condition.

"The road, including Richmond Bridge remains closed while enquiries are ongoing."

In a traffic alert to residents, South Richmond Safer Neighbourhoods team said: "The closure is expected to remain in place throughout the morning.
