South west London housing provider RHP Group has launched the ninth year of its Winter Warmers initiative, aimed at helping older residents stay safe, warm and connected during the winter months.

The scheme focuses on older customers who live independently, with RHP highlighting that winter and the Christmas period can be particularly isolating. National figures suggest around one million older people across the UK experience peak loneliness at this time of year.

This winter, all RHP customers aged 80 and over have received a financial support directory, signposting them to local services, including help with fuel costs and other forms of assistance.

Each pack also includes a supermarket voucher, allowing residents to treat themselves to something comforting during the colder season.

Customers aged over 100 will receive a personally delivered hamper filled with winter essentials.

During these visits, housing advisors will also check whether residents need any additional support at home, including ensuring their boiler is working properly.

New for this year, RHP has also introduced 'Coffee & Company' drop-in sessions, running from November to February.

Open to people of all ages, the sessions offer a free hot drink, a biscuit and the chance to enjoy a chat at local community centres, helping to reduce loneliness and encourage social connection.

Shola O'Grady, Head of Housing Services at RHP, said the initiative remains as important as ever.

She said: "We recognise the heightened challenges faced by older people during the winter season, from rising heating costs to feelings of isolation.

"Whether it's a voucher for warming treats or a hamper hand-delivered to those over 100, we want to bring a little comfort and connection to our customers this winter."

The Winter Warmers scheme is part-funded by RHP's gas and compliance partner Smith & Byford and supports the organisation's wider aim of providing safe, secure homes while helping residents access wider life opportunities.
