Met in Park is coming to Old Deer Park as a school holiday event for families, however it has run into controversy over the involvement of firearms officers.

The event, which takes place on August 21, offers the chance to learn more about the work of police officers in the borough, including their response cars and motorcycles.

The Met in the Park event, which will also feature the London Fire Brigade, St John's Ambulance teams and entertainment for children, is presented as very much a family festival.

However, the involvement of firearms officers has caused a backlash on social media.

These include complaints from people about the killing of two Staffordshire bull terriers - Marshall and Millions – by police firearms officers responding to calls of a dangerous dog incident in Tower Hamlets earlier this year.

The involvement of firearms officers has caused a backlash on social media.

The incident has led to protests and vigils involving the group Animal Rising, while some people suggested they will attend the event in Richmond to confront the police.

One wrote: "This would be a great opportunity to confront the Met Police with their brutal shooting of the dogs."

Another wrote: "Dogs and horses, and firearms officers don't mix as we know! Wonder if the cold blooded assassin will be there, hiding behind his gun?"

The owner of Marshall and Millions, Louie Turnbull, aged 46, has been charged with dangerous dog offences. The Independent Office for Police Conduct is carrying out an investigation into the way the incident was dealt with by the officers involved.
