Details of the 331 street parties and associated road closures have been announced as families across the borough gather for the Platinum Jubilee celebrations.

The total is up by around 99 on the figure from the Diamond Jubilee 10 years ago and suggests Richmond borough will be the street party capital of the UK.

The four day Bank Holiday begins on Thursday and many of the events are planned to go on late into the night.

With some parties planned to run though until midnight, Council chiefs have urged residents to keep the noise down to avoid disturbing those who would prefer a little peace and quiet.

Richmond Council will be unveiling the borough's Platinum Jubilee Beacon at a special ceremony on Thursday at 9.45pm on The Terrace, Richmond Hill.

It is one of a number of set-piece events across the area, ranging from Petersham Nurseries to a Teddy bears picnic in Richmond Park, Whitton High Street's Jubilee Tea, Church Street, Twickenham, and the Hampton Beer Festival.

There is also a host of Jubilee picnics, including at the new restored and re-opened Marble Hill House and park, Wetlands Centre, Barnes, Udney Hall Gardens, and Hampton Wick.

The Council has waived fees for the 331 street parties and funded over 100 grants to residents and local groups to support street parties, The Big Jubilee Lunch and larger commemorative events.

Whitton High Street, as well as streets in Hampton Wick, will close to through traffic at different times over the Bank Holiday, with local traders offering food and drink stalls, live music and entertainment at both sites.

The Whitton celebration will take place on Friday with the high street closed to traffic from 12 noon to 7pm, while the Hampton Wick event will take place on Saturday, with Park Road and St Johns Road closed from 8am to 8pm.

Eight of the 331 street parties events will be taking place on Thursday, including five in Twickenham, two in Hampton and one in Melville Road, Barnes.

Another 44 are planned for Friday, followed by another 74 on Saturday with the bulk of the events – 205 – going ahead on Sunday.

Around one third of all the events – 108 – are taking place in Twickenham with 46 in Hampton, Hampton Wick and Hampton Hill, 43 in Teddington, 42 in East Sheen, 35 in Richmond, 28 in Barnes, 12 in Kew, two in Petersham.

Council leader, Gareth Roberts, said: "The Platinum Jubilee will be a special opportunity to celebrate 70 years of The Queen's reign. The borough will be in full celebration over the bank holiday with an array of events going on.

"As a Council we have made it as easy as possible for residents to mark the occasion by waiving street party fees and providing grants to local communities. I would encourage everyone to take some time to enjoy some of the amazing events taking place across the borough."

He asked partygoers to show consideration to others, adding: "While we want everyone to enjoy the bank holiday it is important to keep others in mind, especially those who might not be celebrating the Jubilee in the same way and to be conscious of noise levels."
