Plans submitted to renovate historic lodge at Richmond Park

A planning application has been submitted to renovate Richmond Gate New Lodge in Richmond Park.
The Royal Parks has proposed a series of updates, including replacing windows and doors, adding new front access, and making internal modifications to improve functionality and aesthetics.
Richmond Gate New Lodge is part of the park's architectural and historical legacy, serving originally as residences for gatekeepers who managed access to the royal park.
The architecture of these lodges typically follows the Victorian and early 19th-century domestic styles, with many built in brick, often with decorative stone or stucco details, and steeply pitched roofs
Details of proposals:
- Replacing all existing windows
- Replacing front and rear doors
- Removing the front glazing door and side panel, replacing with a wall infill
- Removing the external kitchen door and replacing it with a wall infill
- Rearranging internal space to include a WC and lobby area
- Installing sliding doors
- Redesigning the kitchen layout and fitting new installations
- Removing the fireplace to create more space
In its plans, the applicant says: "These proposed modifications will improve the functionality, safety, and aesthetic appeal of the property while ensuring compliance with relevant building regulations and conservation principles."
Richmond Gate New Lodge is situated at the Richmond Hill entrance to the park and can be accessed directly through the park grounds.
The application site is positioned adjacent to the Grade II listed Old Gate Lodge, which also comprises three sets of gate piers and gates.
