Richmond Council confirm that over 400 French, German and Council of Europe flags were displayed across the borough for reaffirmation celebrations.

More than 50 community-led events took place across Richmond upon Thames last week to mark the reaffirmation of the borough's twinning with Konstanz in Germany and Fontainebleau in France.

The celebrations brought together local businesses, schools and community groups, drawing hundreds of visitors and highlighting the value of international partnership, the Council says.

To help create a festive atmosphere, around 400 flags were displayed, particularly in areas hosting official activities, such as Richmond town centre and borough high streets.

Many of the flags were provided by Richmond Council, while others were supplied by local organisations, including the Richmond in Europe Association.

The Council confirmed that the total cost for flags, bunting, banners, and the associated installation and removal came to £6,367.

Officials say the investment supported a 'vibrant' civic programme that promoted cultural exchange, strengthened community ties, and reinforced Richmond's reputation as an 'open and outward-looking' borough.

In addition, Richmond Council say positive feedback has since been received from residents, with several local councillors reporting messages of appreciation for the colourful displays that helped bring the area to life during the international festivities.
