Richmond borough is second in the entire country in terms of the proportion of schools that are rated 'outstanding'.

Almost half of schools across the area get a top rating, while every secondary school is measured as at least 'good' under assessments made by Ofsted.

London dominates the list of areas with the highest proportion of 'outstanding' schools, claiming nine of the ten top spots.

Kensington & Chelsea comes out on top with 60% ahead of Richmond on 49.15per cent. Third place goes to Harrow at 44.07% ahead of Hammersmith and Fulham at 41.67% and Lambeth on 40%.

The research was conducted by the finance website money.co.uk, which also looked at house prices. This assessed how much parents would have to pay to buy a property in these areas in order to get access to these top performing schools.

On Richmond, it said: "Just under half of the schools in Richmond upon Thames are rated as outstanding by Ofsted. On top of this, every single secondary school in the borough is rated at least 'good'.'

But, it added: '"You'll pay a hefty premium for living there with average house prices of £980,000 according to Zoopla."

The only area outside London to make the top ten is Trafford in the North West at 35.87%.

All 11 secondary school in the borough are now rated as 'good' or 'outstanding'.

Teddington School improved its rating from 'requires improvement' to 'good' after an inspection in November 2021. The school was recognised for its inclusive and supportive classroom environment where pupils enjoy their lessons, feel happy and are safe.

It followed success at both Twickenham School and Hampton High, which both moved from 'requires improvement' to 'good'.

A total of 2,173 applied for a Secondary School place starting in September this year, which is around 90 fewer than in 2021.

Some 64% were offered a place at their first preference secondary school, which was an improvement on last year's figure of 60%.

At the same time 85% were offered one of their top three preferences compared to last year's figure of 82%.

Earlier this year, Cllr Penny Frost, Chair of the Council's Education and Children's Services Committee, said: "Our schools are deservedly popular owing to the fact that they offer excellent, inclusive education for local children. In fact, all our secondary schools are now rated good or outstanding by Ofsted.
