The Poppy Factory will hold a free open day at the start of Armed Forces Week on Monday 22 June, as the charity celebrates 100 years in Richmond upon Thames.

Members of the public are encouraged to drop in between 10am and 4pm to explore the visitor centre, enjoy tea, coffee and cake, and chat to expert hosts and team members.

Small groups of guests will have the chance to be shown around lesser-seen parts of the historic factory, which first moved to Richmond in 1926 after outgrowing its original premises in Old Kent Road. Remembrance wreaths, Royal Wreaths and large decorative poppies are still produced on site by a dedicated production team.

Guided tours of the building will be subject to availability on the day.

The visitor centre, off Petersham Road, tells the story of how the charity was founded to create employment opportunities for veterans who had been injured or wounded in the First World War, and how its community of veterans and families became established in Richmond.

In recent times, The Poppy Factory has grown into a national charity helping veterans and their families across the UK on the path to employment. Funds raised through the visitor centre go towards its Veteran and Family Services, which last year helped more than 1,200 members of the Armed Forces community to change their lives.

Chief Executive Amanda Shepard said: "Armed Forces Week is an opportunity for everyone to show our appreciation for those who put their own lives at risk in the service of others. It's also the perfect time to start celebrating a century of support for veterans and families in Richmond and far beyond.

"Please join us for this special open day and help us continue our work supporting veterans and families to feel healthier, more independent and better connected through employment, across the UK."

No tickets are needed for the open day on Monday 22 June. Guests are encouraged to contribute towards the charity's national services by making a donation online or on the day, and by visiting the café and shop counter with its unique range of gifts.

Ticketed discovery sessions are also being offered throughout the summer to celebrate 100 years in Richmond.
