An application has been submitted to install signs at Richmond's Eton House building, but has been met with objections.

Software company Inforcer, who operate out of Eton House, want to install two ceiling-hung illuminated signs, positioned internally at first floor level and visible through the existing curtain wall glazing from street level.

The business says the proposed works would not affect external facades, glazing, walls and the building's architectural detailing.

However, two residents have put forward objections to Inforcer's plans, citing environmental and lighting concerns.

One local said: "I object to this proposal for double sided illuminated advertising on several grounds.

"Firstly, environmental, especially as the building was 'sold' to the local residents ad being eco-friendly. Already lights are left on all night in the empty building as well as the alarms going off unattended."

Another resident wrote: "I wish to object to the above planning application on the grounds of its impact on visual amenity, light pollution, residential amenity, and the character and ethos of the Conservation Area.

"While it is not clear whether the proposed signage would directly impact bedroom windows, the principal concern is the cumulative effect of additional lighting in an environment already experiencing significant and ongoing light disturbance.

"Residents are already affected by stairwell and office lights that remain illuminated 24 hours a day. Although these lights may not be in the same position as the proposed signage, they nonetheless contribute to a high baseline level of brightness and night-time disruption.

"The introduction of further illuminated elements would add to this cumulative impact, which is a material planning consideration."

To application will be decided on 2 March 2026. Read the full proposals here.
