Residents in Ham now have a brand-new way to get active following the opening of a multi-use games area (MUGA) at St Richard's CE Primary School.

The modern facility will provide pupils and the wider community with a safe and inclusive space to enjoy a variety of sports and activities all year round.

Councillor Alan Juriansz, Vice-Chair of the Environment, Sustainability, Culture and Sports Committee and Lead Member for Sport, said: "Investing in spaces like this multi-use games area is about more than just sport – it's about helping people to be active, healthy, and confident.

"We're proud to work with St Richard's CE Primary School to give students and residents a place they can enjoy for many years to come."

The MUGA is part of the wider regeneration of Ham Close, led by Richmond Housing Partnership and Hill, designed to create welcoming, supportive spaces for the local community.

Cllr Juriansz added: "Our goal is to support Richmond residents to move more, in their own way, every day. That is why we're providing accessible and inclusive facilities, such as the multi-use games area, where people can come together."

Head Teacher at St Richard's, Sian Murphy, said the facility will be a huge boost for both the school and local community.

"We are absolutely delighted with the new games area," she said. "This will be a fantastic addition to the school and the community, providing our students the chance to try new sports, build on their teamwork skills, and stay active in a new environment."

Outside of school hours, the MUGA will be available for hire by local community and sports organisations. St Richard's CE Primary School will manage bookings and maintenance of the facility.

The project also supports the Council's wider ambitions through its Leisure Strategy, Richmond Moves for a Healthier Borough (2024–29), which aims to give all residents greater opportunities to be active.
