Mystery surrounds reports of shots being fired in Mortlake.

The drama unfolded on Tuesday last week, however only now are the very sketchy details emerging.

The incident apparently happened in broad daylight in St Leonards Road, yet the police have – so far – been unable to get to the bottom of it.

As a result, residents who have raised the alarm about the reports on social media have been left in the dark about what happened, including whether it was really gunfire.

The Metropolitan Police told Nub News: "Officers from South West Basic Command Unit were called to St Leonards Road, Mortlake SW14 at 1640 hours on 23/05/2023 following a call from a member of the public who had heard gunshots.

"Detectives from SW BCU are continuing with enquiries aided by support from specialist teams where appropriate.

"No injuries were sustained. No arrests have been made."

The spokesperson added: "Anyone with information that may assist the investigation is asked to call 101 and quote CAD reference 5318 of 23rd May 2023. Alternatively, they can call Crimestoppers or contact fearless.org."
