Mortlake – Person struck by a train

A person has been struck by a train on the rail line at Mortlake this afternoon.
Emergency services have been dealing with the tragic incident which has disrupted train services between South West London and Waterloo.
South Western Railway (SWR) said: "There have been Emergency services dealing with an incident between Barnes and Richmond.
"Trains may be cancelled, delayed, or revised because of this problem."
The Twickenham MP, Munira Wilson, alerted travellers on Twitter, saying: "Anyone local to Richmond/Twickenham trying to use trains this afternoon, they've all been stopped due to a passenger sadly being struck by a train at Mortlake. You will need to find an alternative route.
"Thoughts with the person involved and their family."
URGENT UPDATE
British Transport Police said: "We were called to Mortlake station at 1.20pm today (20 June) following reports of a casualty on the tracks.
"Paramedics also attended and sadly a person was pronounced dead at the scene. Officers are currently working to identify the deceased and inform their family.
"The incident is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner."
SWR said they expect disruption to services to continue until at least 6pm.
SWR said: "Due to the emergency services dealing with an incident on the railway, no trains are running between Barnes and Richmond.
"Disruption is expected until 18:00, and we would like to apologise to customers for any delay this causes to their journey."
