A resident says a prolific beggar knocked on their door in Twickenham yesterday (1 October) demanding cash despite the man being handed a Criminal Behaviour Order (CBO) for anti-social behaviour in and around Surrey.
44-year-old, Darren Bingham, was issued with the CBO after appearing at Guildford Crown Court on Saturday, 21 September.
The order prevents him from knocking or calling on any door of a person unknown to him in England or Wales; from begging or attempting to beg in any public place in England or Wales; and from entering the county of Surrey.
It has taken Bingham 11 days to strike again after a resident from Amyand Park Rd, Twickenham informed Nub News that he had knocked on their door posing as a neighbour who needed money to get to Chertsey.
The resident said: "The suspicions came up when he told me his story.
"He went 'look I've got a bump on my head, I fell down and I haven't got my keys and my daughters not very well and I can't get in and I need bus fare to go to Chertsey to get the keys off of my dad.'
"What a ridiculous story."
What came as more of a shock to the resident was the amount Bingham had asked for to get to Chertsey.
They added: "Then I asked 'well, how much do you need'. First of all he said 50 quid to get to Chertsey...eventually we gave him 20 (pounds)."
However, the resident from Amyand Park Rd was not aware of Bingham's history and recent CBO when he had knocked on their door or else they would not have given him money.
After the incident, the resident alerted neighbours, who also claimed that Bingham had attempted to beg to them.
The resident continued: "A woman had door cam footage of him (Darren Bingham) and then I knew it was him.
"He's clever enough that he's done on this road. He'll be somewhere else so watch out."
Local police has been informed of the incident and is in contact with the resident.
Breaching the conditions of a CBO can lead to arrest, and the public can report information by calling 101 or 999 in an emergency.
